Technology Description:

ELECTRONIC NOSE AND COMPLEX ORGANIC COMPOUND ANALYSIS

Alpha M.O.S. is the developer of Multiple Odor Sensing (MOS) equipment. This technology consists of multiple arrays of non-specific gas sensors, configured from inorganic semi-conductor MOS detectors or organic sensors including, quartz sensing devices, surface acoustic wave, or conducting polymer. Detection modes maybe combined for a hybrid sensor approach or used singularly.

The system can be used as a discrete sample measurement system or as an automatic flow through system. The sampling architecture is designed for a wide range of site specific optimization.

Operational parameters for this transportable on-site system are optimized by the operator, based on the application requirements, and down loaded to the system. Operation in a stand alone unattended mode can be performed with the data later down loaded to a PC for analysis.
Performance Status/
Limitations:

As a rapid assessment and predictive tool, this technology is not intended to qualify individual compound concentrations. Unlike GC analytical techniques which physically separate the compounds and report concentration, The Electronic Nose Systems, quantify the complex compounds and finger print the response as a comparison. As such, the sample range must be characterized and the system response or finger print taught and described to the system. Once taught, the system is "Calibrated" and additional calibration is not required.

As the range of detection devises is fairly abroad range, the configuration and system design is important to ensure day-to-day, week-to-week and month-to-month stability. This short coming of the short technology has been addressed with Alpha M.O.S. Hybrid patents.
