The Chemical Manufacturer's Association (CMA) is one of the oldest most respected trade associations in North America. Its members manufacture more than 90% of the basic industrial chemicals produced in the United States. The CMA's members help resolve industry-wide technical and scientific problems, and administer research studies on chemical products. From 1989 to 1992, the CMA adopted five codes which are available in printed format from CMA at no cost. These include:
Community Awareness and Emergency Response Code: designed to help assure emergency preparedness and community right-to-know.
Pollution Prevention Code: designed to promote industry efforts to protect the environment by generating less waste and reducing pollutant emissions, and to promote sound management of any remaining residues.
Process Safety Code: designed to prevent fires, explosions, and accidental chemical releases.
Distribution Code: designed to reduce the risk that the transportation and storage of chemicals poses to carriers, customers, the public, and the environment.
Employee Health and Safety Code: designed to protect and promote the health and safety of people working at or visiting CMA member company work sites.
Product Stewardship Code: designed to make health, safety, and environmental protection an integral part of designing, manufacturing, marketing, distributing, using, recycling, and disposing of chemical products.
