Overview of State Regulations
Maine has state asbestos regulations for asbestos covering disposal, asbestos management, and transportation. Cities and counties may have their own requirements.
State/Federal Agencies Involved with the State Asbestos Program
The following agencies/entities have asbestos-related regulatory and enforcement responsibilities in Maine:
A. The Department of Environmental Protection (contact phone (207) 287-7829 , general phone (207) 287-7829) is involved in the following state/federal asbestos enforcement/requirements:
- training courses - The state training course program for asbestos personnel is fully approved by the EPA Region 1.
- certifications
- licensing - for training providers

Laboratory Requirements
Check with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection for state accreditation requirements for laboratories and analysts.
