Mercury Refining Company is a hazardous waste treatment and mercury disposal/recycling facility that accepts the following types of wastes: wastewaters, contaminated soil, inorganics, heavy metals, precious metals, acids, caustics, mercury containing devices, fluorescent lamps, batteries, and mercury amalgam. Services include processing, analysis, transportation and storage of mercury-bearing material. Only a few hazardous waste codes, all for mercury, are processed at the facility.
The state-of-the-art facility in Albany, NY, employs the BDAT thermal process, mercury retorting, to recover mercury as well as other metals. The recovered mercury/precious metals may be returned for reuse by the customer or retained by MERECO for resale.
The facility is operating under an approved RCRA Part B Permit and is approved to accept CERCLA wastes.
